International Workshop on Green Campus Development and Resilient University Management Held in Bratislava
From 19 to 22 October 2026, the Faculty of Management of Comenius University in Bratislava hosted the international workshop “Smart Green Campus Development, Living Labs and Resilient University Management.” The event was organised by Nataliia Yehorchenkova and Oleksii Yehorchenkov from the SPECTRA Centre of Excellence EU within the framework of the STICS project and brought together academics, university administrators and experts from Slovakia, Ukraine and Germany.
The four-day programme focused on sustainable campus transformation, living labs, institutional resilience and international academic cooperation. Prof. Maroš Finka introduced the STICS project, while Assoc. Prof. Milan Husár presented the Smart Green Campus concept. Representatives of Ukrainian universities shared their experience in environmental management, institutional development and maintaining educational activities under crisis conditions.
A central outcome of the workshop was the development of the conceptual transition from a Smart Green Campus towards a Resilient Campus, drawing on Ukrainian universities' experience of operating under wartime conditions. Participants discussed how environmental sustainability could be integrated with institutional adaptability, crisis preparedness, continuity of education and community resilience, opening new perspectives for the STICS Smart Green Campus initiative.
An interactive workshop led by Yulia Nikitchenko from Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development explored opportunities for developing joint study programmes for green and resilient universities. The programme also included a study visit to Trenčín, linking academic discussions with sustainable urban development practices.
The event strengthened Slovak-Ukrainian academic cooperation and laid the foundation for further joint educational and research initiatives, particularly in advancing the Resilient Campus concept as an evolution of the Smart Green Campus approach.
An important step towards concrete and effective cooperation between the Faculty of Management of Comenius University in Bratislava and several Ukrainian universities is the signing of memoranda of cooperation. They include a commitment to develop joint research activities and to prepare and implement international research projects.
